Pantomime Time!

What is a Pantomime?

Christmas Pantomimes (or “pantos” as they are called) are shows put on in theatres over Christmas. The stories are often from old fairy tales but pantos are popular with children and adults because there are jokes in the panto for all ages.

The traditions of pantomimes:

Principle boy– the hero- is often a female in disguise

The Dames– “ugly sisters”- older male actors dress up as ugly women and make jokes

Double entendre– because pantos are for children and adults, there are often jokes about sex that only the adults are supposed to understand

Audience participation– audiences are encouraged to join in with songs and shouts- especially “He’s behind you” and “Oh yes it is”

Good fairy– to make sure there is a “happy ending”, there are often fairy characters who use magic to help out

INTO Manchester staff  are putting on Cinderella on Wednesday 12th December 12.30pm in the first floor break out area. There will be a collection for charity to help some of the most vulnerable in society this Christmas

Prepare to see you teachers as you have never seen them before!

Cinderella is a very old fairy tale about a beautiful young woman who is treated badly by her stepmother and  ugly sisters.  But throw in a good fairy and the love of a prince, plus a glass shoe…..
