Pride Month

Pride Month

Hi All!

Whilst we have been slightly delayed by the recent Jubilee Bank Holiday, the Learning Centre are pleased to put Pride Month into the Spotlight this June!

Woman stands with her back to the camera, a rainbow pride flag held between her hands and raised over her hear. It is a sunny day.

Pride is a celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community, held globally in June to align with the dates of the Stonewall riots in 1969 – an event which changed rights for the LGBT+ community in the USA and beyond. Pride month is all about acceptance, equality, and celebrating the work of LGBT+ people. It is also about highlighting the work still to be done in the pursuit of equality.

Many towns and cities host pride celebrations, including parades, but not all of them are in June. In Manchester, 2022 Pride will take place Friday 26th August until Monday 29th August. London will be hosting it’s Pride celebration on July 2nd.

Want to find somewhere to celebrate whilst you’re in the UK? Go here for an up-to-date list of the Pride events happening across the UK.

In the Learning Centre, we have a variety of fiction and non-fiction books which will make ideal reading for Pride Month. These will be on display, and dotted around the Learning Centre, for you to check out.

We hope you all have a wonderful Pride month and make the most of this opportunity to learn more about yourself and others!
