Welcome to the INTO Manchester Learning Centre Website

Welcome to the INTO Manchester Learning Centre website. Here through a series of  easy links you will be able to access your own library account, the library catalogue which tells you what books are available for you, information to help you with your studies and research and a mass of useful databases and websites to help you with your English and work. The website is interactive and you can contact the library online to ask for help, make suggestions or leave a comment.

Introduction to the Learning Centre

The Learning Centre is situated on the second floor at Bridgwater House. It contains a stock of over 4000 resources including books, DVDs, music CDs, multi-media packs, student dissertations, business reports and reference books. We have English books at all levels so all students will find something they can read. There are 30 computers available for students to use with free Internet access. The Learning Centre also sells a variety of goods to help with your studies. Opening times are:

  • Monday                  8.30-5.30
  • Tuesday                 8.30-6-45
  • Wednesday           8.30-6.45
  • Thursday               8.30-6.45
  • Friday                      8.30-5.00

(Computers close down 10 minutes before the end of each day)

Holiday Period Opening Hours:

  • Monday-Friday            9.00-4.00

Meet the Learning Centre Team

Here at the INTO Manchester Learning Centre we have a dedicated team who are here to help you make the most of the Centres resources and with your studies. No matter what you are studying at INTO Manchester please feel free to pop in and say hello and use our facilities.

Christopher (Chris) Hall. Learning Centre Manager. Chris is a professionally trained librarian with over 25 year’s experience. He has also been a teacher in the past. He is the Learning Centre specialist in online resources and can be contacted online through this website. He likes football, foreign travel, loud music, horror films and reading history books.

Sue Sheppard. Senior Learning Assistant. Sue is a professionally trained Librarian with over 20 year’s experience. She is the expert on resources located in the Learning Centre. She likes reading, walks in the countryside, foreign travel and DIY(you can ask her what this means!). She has recently become a grandmother for the first time.

Jacqueline Anslow  Learning Assistant. Jacqueline has worked in libraries for over fifteen years. She has an interest in English Language and is a good speller! She enjoys the countryside, English seaside holidays and reading.

Patrick Glaister Learning Assistant. Has previously worked in public and university libraries and is studying for a masters degree in Library and Information Management. He is the Learning Centre’s expert in social media. He enjoys walking in the countryside, football and seeing live music.

A Guide to the Learning Centre

What is the Learning Centre?

The Learning Centre is a Library plus computers and online resources. It is on the 2nd Floor of INTO Manchester, Bridgewater House. All students and staff are welcome.

When is the Centre Open?

  • Monday: 8:30am – 5.30pm
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 8:30am – 6.45pm
  • Friday: 8:30am – 5pm
  • Holidays: 9am – 4pm

What is available in the Centre?

  • Books to borrow (to help with your course and for general interest)
  • Magazines and newspapers to read
  • CDs and film DVDs to borrow
  • Access to 3o personal computers with a range of software and internet access
  • Study tables
  • An enquiry desk with professional staff
  • A photocopier and scanner
  • Stationary to buy

What can I borrow?

  • You can borrow a total of 8 items
  • You can borrow 2 CDs and 2 DVDs

Books are issued to you for 3 weeks. CDs and DVDs are issued to you for 1 week. (The date they are due back will be stamped on them). If you have not finished using them please ask staff for more time (called “renewing”). Fines are charged on items returned late (5p per day).

What are the rules?

  • Talk quietly in the Centre so as not to disturb others
  • Switch your mobile phone to “silent”
  • You must not eat in the Centre
  • You must not bring hot drinks into the Centre (bottled water is OK)
  • Obey the IT acceptable use policy
